Spalding St Mary & St Nicolas

Activities for Children & Young People

We warmly welcome children and young people at St Mary & St Nicolas Church. We encourage all young people and their families to be involved in the many groups and activities associated with our church.  All our volunteers who work with children have completed a Criminal Records Bureau check, and we follow the Church of England House of Bishops' policy on child protection.

Sunday services, All Age Worship & Children's Corner

At all our services people who bring children to church are invited to sit with them in a pew, or to take them to the children's corner where they may play safely.

About ten times a year at 9.30am we have All-Age Worship - a service designed with young children and families specifically in mind. The uniformed youth organisations join this service. All Age Worship dates are on the porch noticeboard and in the weekly notices.

Holiday Clubs & Children's Workshops

Several times during the year, and also for one week during the summer, we run workshops and a holiday club in our church hall. These usually involve stories, drama, music and craft activities.

'Tulip Praise'  Pram Service  (Wednesdays 1.30pm)

This short, simple act of worship for babies, pre-schoolers and their carers contains stories, action songs with instruments, activities and a prayer. Refreshments afterwards in the church hall.

'Tulip Toddlers' Club (Mondays 9.30am-11.00am)

A parent and toddler group with a safe area for babies in the coffee lounge. Lots of ride-on toys and supervised physical activites for toddles. We charge £1 per family to allay costs.

'Tulip' Pre School

Our pre-school aims to provide an early-learning environment for children ages 3-4yrs in our church hall from 9.15-11.45am Monday-Friday. There are less structured sessions for younger children on Monday-Thursdays from 12.30-2.30pm.  The Tulip Pre-school is a registered charity run by a management committee of parents and church representatives. An OFSTED inspection in July 2004 commented on its many strengths. Contact may be made via the Parish Office

Spalding Parish Church of England Day School (SPCEDS)

Our 2-form entry Voluntary Aided Primary School has strong links with the Church. The whole school attends church for three services each term and clergy take one of the assemblies at school each week. There is also a pre-reception class for 4yr olds

Full details of SPCEDS can be obtained from the Head Teacher at the school, from the school website www.spaldingparish.lincs.sch.uk  or by emailing the school

Rainbows, Brownies & Guides

These thriving church-sponsord groups all meet on Monday evening in the Church Hall. All girls are encouraged to take an active part in All-Age Worship. There are waiting lists for these organisations. Full details may be had from the leaders - via the Parish Office
