Music at St Mary & St Nicolas
Church Choir
The Choir of St Mary & St Nicolas consists of twenty seven boys and twenty men and leads the 11.00am Sung Eucharist and 6.30pm Evensong each Sunday. The choir has a reputation as one of the leading choirs in Lincolnshire, and has sung at many of the famous cathedrals of the country. The choir has a long tradition of choral music and offers a unique musical and educational opportunity to choristers. Boys attend various courses during their time in the choir, and many have achieved awards in the RSCM Chorister Training Scheme.
Weekly choir practices are on Wednesdays 4.30-5.30pm and Fridays 7.00-8.15pm
There is also a supervised Choir Club for the boys. It meets on Wednesdays at 4.30pm (before choir practice) and also between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.
Membership of the choir requires a sense of commitment and self-discipline, and, besides their musical training, boys are encouraged in loyalty and consideration for others. Anyone interested in choir membership is invited to contact the Director of Music via the
Parish Office for more details.
The Parish Church Choir now has its own new dedicated website. Visit http://www.spaldingparishchurchchoir.co.uk to hear us sing!
Download here an mp3 file of 'O for the wings of a dove' sung at Evensong on 10 May 2009 as part of the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of Mendelssohn's birth, promoted by BBC Radio 3. The soloist is Ross Smart, and the full work called 'Hear my prayer' is based on Psalm 55.
St Mary Singers
and 'Connect' Music Group
A small choir (St Mary Singers) normally leads the singing during the 9.30am Sunday Family Communion and All-Age Worship services in church. They are normally accompanied by the organ, piano and other instruments.
The Connect Music Group (photograph to follow) usually accompanies the worship at 'Connect' - our fresh expression of Fellowship and Worship which is currently meeting every Sunday at 11.00am at the Parish Church Day School.
